I came across a contact on anysoldier.com yesterday who is not just asking for DVDs, but asking for SPN DVDs specifically!

Would anyone like to send an OpWin package to this contact? Please comment here if you would.

Avina, Jose J, Army (search by last name)
Thanks, stephani673!

Also, please remember to email me as soon as you request your contact's full address so I can add them to the OpWin recipients list (so we don't bombard one contact with many copies of the DVD sets).

And if you've already mailed an OpWin package, please email me your contact's name and service branch (if you haven't already done so) so I can add them to the recipients list.

Operation: Winchester is a go!

Everything is in place, and Operation: Winchester is officially under way -- in fact, four packages have already gone out that I know about (If anyone else has already sent theirs, please email me right away at toastytravesty at gmail.com so I can add them to the list of OpWin recipients.) Information about the project and how you can take part are on the website and a summary of sorts is behind the cut:

Please help spread the word about the project. If you have any questions or comments, let me know. :)

ThanksCollapse )

Kristen's SOS Campagin may have been a bust for all concerned, but her blog's sensationalism does bring in browsers, and she appears to have learned from her mistakes. The nominations for her Tater Tops awards will be collected by e-mail like SOS ballots supposedly used to be, and there's plenty of catagories Supernatural is eligible for.

Even in summer, there’s places to click those radio buttons for the cause.

First off, there's TV Gal's The Amy Awards. Supernatural has been nominated for several categories, but most importantly: "If Only Amy Would Talk More About This Show (Best Show TV Gal Never Talks About)"

You have until Friday, June 22 at 5 p.m. ET to vote. I'd encourage you to vote now.

There's also TV Guide's Michael Ausiello's poll "With ''Gilmore Girls'' and ''Veronica Mars'' gone, what underrepresented shows should pick up the slack in Ask Ausiello?" (In the bottom right hand corner of the page.)

Unfortunately, it's devolved into a bot war between Bones and Supernatural fans. But don't worry, not only does Ausellio know what's going on, in his most recent column he teased Bones fans for starting it. The good news? He must also know that before things spun out of control, Supernatural was winning.

I apologize for my brief and unannounced sojourn. I have returned.

Heads-up to everyone planning to participate in Operation: Winchester! Target is running a 'temporary price cut' on Supernatural season 1 DVD sets -- they're $22.99. The price cut will end July 2.

The guy I talked to said he wasn't sure if all Target stores were having the price cut (though I do know of another store in another part of the country that is also running the same special.) Many thanks to zanne68 for telling me about it. :)

More information about Operation: Winchester is coming soon, but I wanted to let everyone know about this right away so they can buy while the DVDs are practically half-priced.

If you haven't already let that long breath out, I think it's safe to let it out today. More than one reputable news source is confirming our pickup, including Variety, the futon critic, and TV Guide. Break out the champagne!!

We'll still have to wait until Thursday to find out where we sit on next season's schedule. If you've heard the buzz, I'd reccomend not buying into the naysaying about the Sunday night spot. The X-Files made its legendary run in that very position. And they ways our best episodes this season are getting pummelled by Grey's and CSI in sweeps, I'd welcome a respite.

What is Operation: Winchester?

Operation: Winchester is a project that aims to introduce "Supernatural" to the hard-working troops overseas by sending them sets of the Season 1 DVDs (and later, season 2). In the process, we not only put some much-needed quality entertainment in the hands of a lot of deserving people (many of whom are in the coveted 'males age 18 to 24' demographic that the networks love so much), but we also help spread the word about "Supernatural" and increase sales of the DVD sets in the process.

Everybody wins!

How does it work?

Operation: Winchester participants buy a "Supernatural" season 1 DVD set, choose a contact from AnySoldier.com, and mail off the DVD set with a letter briefly explaining "Supernatural" and Operation: Winchester. Of course, you can also include other items to brighten the troops' day -- each contact on AnySoldier.com lists items they would like to receive.

Important: choose a contact that specifically asks for DVDs, or mentions having access to a DVD player. Not all troops have the ability to watch DVDs, and we don't want to disappoint anyone by sending them things they can't use.

When does it start?

Participants can start now by buying the DVD sets they plan to send, and choosing where to send them. We'll have more information soon regarding how to mail the packages, ideas for "themed" boxes and so on. We're aiming to mail the first packages by Memorial Day (US) -- May 28, 2007.

Make sure you tell us by commenting here or by emailing toastytravesty@gmail.com when you've mailed your package, so we can keep track of how many packages have been sent.

What can you do to help?

*Plan to send an Operation: Winchester package -- or two!
*Tell your friends about the project, and get them involved.
*Spread the word about the project online.
*Design graphics for the project -- banners that can be used to promote the project, icons, headers, etc.
*Design an Operation: Winchester logo that can be printed off and included with packages.
*Suggest screencaps to be used on an Operation: Winchester website. We're looking for caps showing the Winchester boys 'in action' -- aiming weapons, fighting ghosts and so on. Post the caps here, or email them to toastytravesty@gmail.com.
*If you want to help but can't send a package, you can contribute to the project's PayPal account. All funds will be used to send Operation: Winchester packages to troops overseas. More information on this will be forthcoming.
*Want to send packages to troops from other countries? Great! We'd love to include them. Research the details on how to do this, and send us the information so we can add it to the project.
*Know something we're forgetting? Have a great idea for the project? Please let us know!

If you have any questions or comments, please comment here or email toastytravesty@gmail.com.
